St. Patrick's Episcopal Church

The Rev. Sarah A. Syer Joins St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church

By Rev. Clare C. Novak

After a yearlong, nationwide search, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Incline Village announces with joy the arrival of our new rector, The Rev. Sarah Amelia Syer, on September 11. The community is warmly welcomed to join her and our happy congregation in worship at 8:00 am and 10:00 am Sunday services each week, beginning September 17, in our sanctuary at 341 Village Boulevard.

Everyone is also invited to a family-friendly, community Beach BBQ at Incline Beach on Sunday, September 24, 11:30 am, when St. Pat’s celebrates her new ministry with food, fun, and games for all ages. (Postponed indefinitely due to weather.)

Sarah comes to our village from Amherst, Massachusetts, where she has served as Associate Priest at Grace Episcopal Church since 2015. Educated at Mount Holyoke College (B.A. in Religion) and Yale Divinity School (Masters of Divinity), she energetically brings the Gospel to life with heart and humor.

Her many giftsenthusiastic, creative preaching; intellectually stimulating Christian formation and education; and faith-stirring outreach to children, students, and young adultsmake her a wonderful pastor for St. Patrick’s and the larger North Lake Tahoe community. Devoted to work of social justice and inclusion, Sarah is also drawn to Celtic traditions of wisdom and worship, a natural match for our church’s patron saint.

With her husband, Nate (a hospice chaplain), Sarah shares a deep love for our magnificent outdoor environment and its opportunities for skiing, hiking, kayaking, and rafting. Moreover, she sees in our surroundings a direct invitation to spiritual life: “I imagine that if Jesus enjoyed the beauty of the Sea of Galilee, then how much more would he enjoy Lake Tahoe (and not just the place, but the people)? As people who so highly value the beauty of this world, we are called to point to the power of God in creation. My husband and I want to walk beside you in a pilgrimage of faith in one of the most sacred places on this earth.”

Please join The Rev. Sarah A. Syer and the people of St. Patrick’s in this joyful walk of faith. Renewed by her sense of spiritual adventure, we are seeking light and sharing love in the Way of Jesus.
